Palacinka Beauty Blog

Hey  Blog followers, it’s Beauty Time with the talented beauty expert and blogger, Risi-Leanne the voice of Palacinka Beauty Blog. We met a couple of years ago at a Fashion Week event, and since then I can’t get enough of this outspoken and knowledgeable beauty diva. So, if you are feeling a little confused and/or overwhelmed by the thousands of products that are presented to you at your local beauty aisle, and need some expert advice on what cleanser or concealer to buy Risi-Leanne of Palacinka Beauty Blog is your go to girl! Guys don’t feel left out she even reviews men’s products!

QF: How long have you been blogging, and why did you chose to start a beauty blog?

Palacinka: I’ve been blogging about 4 years. I decided to start the blog as a overall lifetime love of all things related to beauty and fragrance, and an outgrowth of all the product information I had from previously working at some of the biggest advertising agencies in the world, on beauty and lifestyle campaigns.

QF: Have you always been interested in beauty and products, and what are some of your favorites?

Palacinka: Yes, my earliest memories are at about 4-5 years old seeing all the CHANEL, Lancome and Clinique products on my mother’s dresser!  It made me very curious….

Some of my favorite brands today are: La Mer, Sue Devitt, NARS, CHANEL, Bobbi Brown, Make Up For Ever, DDF Skincare, Clarins, Dermalogica, Phyto, Hourglass Cosmetics

QF: How many products do you review in say a week?

Palacinka: On an average week I’m usually rotating anywhere from 10-15 products to test (including fragrance), and I write about 7-10 reviews per week.

QF: What are the top three products you couldn’t live without and why?

Palacinka: DDF Revolve 400x Micro Polishing System – Smoothes skin and leaves it flawless.
La Mer Original Creme – One of the most incredible moisturizers ever, and yes it’s worth the price.
CHANEL Precision Eye Makeup Remover – Removes ANY eye makeup instantly with no residue, and tones the eye area too!

QF: So, I probably have more products then most men and it’s not just because I’m gay. Or maybe it is? What are the top three must buys for guys? I personally like to have an exfoliator, a face wash, and a moisturizer.

Palacinka: I’m glad you asked this!  In the last year, there have been a number of new skin care and body care launches specifically for men that I really love.

Lierac Men’s Line has wonderful exfoliators, light moisturizers and an eye cream that’s wonderful.
Votre Vu – 3-in-1 Wash is amazing – You can cleanse Face, hair and body and it has a great clean, citrus scent.
Bill Jealousy is a nice line for shaving and after shave creams.
For razor bumps – BARC is one of the best to eliminate them!
For Drugstore: Dove Men’s shower gel and body lotion are a great buy and smell fantastic too!

QF: Who is the celebrity that you think always looks stunning from the hair to the makeup?

Palacinka: Jennifer Lopez.  Still.

QF: What makes your blog different from other beauty blogs?

Palacinka: I have exclusive interviews with some of the top celebrity and fashion editorial makeup artists and hair stylists in the world – like Mylah Morales, Rihanna’s makeup artist, Scott Barnes, Jennifer Lopez’s makeup artist, Jackie Gomez, Beyonce and Solange’s makeup artist and Sam Fine, makeup artist to many such as Iman, Queen Latifah, Monique and more. They share secrets, the exact products they use and give my readers tips on how to recreate the looks.

I also have several more exclusive series on the blog:
-Skincare Demystified with top Dermatologist Andrea Trowers (great information on everything from proper sun care, to dealing with acne to how to choose an in office procedure like Botox)
-24 Hours with… (a series featuring successful entrepreneurs in the beauty industry)
-Super Cute! (a fun series where I highlight products that I love which also have great packaging, colors, approach, etc.)
-Drugstore Buy of the Week – (for those looking for a great deal!)

QF: Can you give some of the ladies that maybe reading this any makeup tips?

Palacinka: One of my favorite makeup tips comes courtesy of Clarins.  When cleansing, don’t apply cleanser in a circular motion, instead press/pat the product on your skin.  This lifts off dirt and makeup without redistributing it back on to the skin! Also, when applying your serums/creams (and especially eye cream), also press it into the skin (not rub!) to increase the absorption and effectiveness.

Another tip:  Always wear makeup primer! I know a lot of women think it doesn’t make a big difference, but it does.  It really helps to keep your makeup on longer and looking fresh.  Plus most primers have amazing anti-aging skin benefits and even sunscreen which you need anyway. There are now also organic and natural primer options too, so there’s no excuse!

QF: Who is your favorite stylist and/or are your fashion icon?

Palacinka: My favorite stylist is Andrea Lieberman who works with Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani.  I also love Mariel Haenn who always makes Rihanna look amazing – she pushes the envelope but always in a stylish way.

QF: Why do you think some many people are obsessed with beauty?

Palacinka: Because it’s about reaching the highest visual potential you can to make you look on the outside the way you ideally see yourself.

QF: Risi-Leanne what does beauty mean to you?

Palacinka: Overall, I have a very lighthearted approach.  I believe Yves St. Laurent said it best with this quote: “The most beautiful makeup of a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy”
